Kuala Lumpur, 10 June 2016 - Add Hope, an on-going initiative from KFC Malaysia to help eradicate hunger, is back this Ramadan season stronger than ever, with a line-up of initiatives to raise funds and drive greater support and awareness from the public. Popular Actress and TV Host, Scha Alyahya, will continue partnering KFC Malaysia in her role as spokesperson for this cause, to take the fight to end hunger to another level.
“The journey with the team on this cause has been such a humbling experience. It really saddens me to see so many people in our own backyard with barely enough food to eat, let alone feed their families. As a mother, I can’t imagine the pain of seeing your child going to bed hungry. The past year has shown me this pain is a reality some families go through daily. At the same time it is truly gratifying to see the smiles and difference we can make with Add Hope. This cause is close to my heart and I am honoured to continue supporting KFC Malaysia on this campaign,” said Scha.
In its 10th year, the Add Hope campaign which was previously named ‘World Hunger Relief’, is a year-long effort that goes beyond the fundraising period. “There are many people out there who need help and KFC is going all out to create awareness and rally more support. Add Hope is an immense effort that involves the entire organisation, from store-level to the management team, rallied around the belief in the power of many and the quest for giving,” said Sharifah Musainah, General Manager, QSR Brands (M) Holdings Sdn Bhd.
She continued, “It is heartening to see that every year with the kind donations of our customers, we manage to collect more funds than we did the previous year. There are still a lot of families and children to help and we hope that we will garner an even greater level of support from Malaysians this year.”
Similar to previous years, Add Hope will raise funds through the special ‘Add Hope Meal’ promotion at KFC outlets, where meals under this promotion will be charged an extra RM0.50 which goes directly into the fund. Donation boxes will also be placed at all KFC outlets throughout the campaign period for customers who prefer to donate through this manner.
Add Hope’s main objective is to raise funds in order to provide food resources in hunger stricken areas both nationally and internationally. A portion of the funds will be allocated for the United Nations’ World Food Programme while the majority will be distributed locally to needy families and charity homes throughout Malaysia. In addition, funds have also been channelled through collaborative efforts with local NGOs and relevant government bodies including Malaysian Welfare Department, PERTIWI and KECHARA soup kitchen and Food Aid Foundation amongst others.
To date the campaign has raised more than RM17 million locally, and more than USD$600 million globally.
