Kuala Lumpur, 8 May 2015 - KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia recently presented RM400,000.00 to four local NGOs as part of their World Hunger Relief (WHR) Distribution Programme plans to tie up with local hunger relief agencies.
Persatuan Kebajikan HOPE Worldwide Kuala Lumpur, Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, Kechara Soup Kitchen Society, and the Malaysia Red Crescent (MRC) Community Services - JB were among the NGOs selected to receive the WHR campaign funds allocated for the collaboration effort. Each received a contribution of RM100,000.00, and will be carrying the same mission together with KFC & Pizza Hut Malaysia’s WHR programme which is to give food aid to the less fortunate individuals throughout Malaysia.
“We are honoured and excited that HOPE, Pertiwi, Kechara and MRC are partnering with us to provide a vehicle in which the funds are able to reach the hungry, homeless, and needy as well as the hardcore poor in hopes of providing them with much needed relief,” said Ahmad Taufek Omar, Chief Digital Marketing & Information Technology, KFC Malaysia.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to once again thank our KFC & Pizza Hut customers for their kind contribution towards the WHR fund. Because of the generosity shown by our customers, we are able to collect the funds and in turn distribute it to the deserving individuals all across Malaysia”, he added.
KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia’s World Hunger Relief (WHR) campaign last year kicked off amazingly and managed to garner a total of RM2.6 million. The annual initiative to help end world hunger raised the fund through a 3-month campaign starting in June 2014 that called out to its generous customers to donate via the donation boxes provided at all restaurants as well as the WHR meal at both KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants (meals that were sold under this promotion were charged an extra RM0.50 which is then channeled towards the fund).
A portion of the funds have been allocated for the United Nations’ World Food Programme while the majority is being distributed locally.
The WHR Distribution Programme launched last year is further expanding by involving other similar NGO’s to act as vehicles to distribute the funds. Apart from the NGOs stated above, the WHR Distribution Programme is working closely with the Yayasan Orang Kurang Upaya Kelantan (YOKUK), the Welfare Department and the Education Department.
The programme will also continue to search for families and individuals throughout Malaysia that are in dire need of assistance by providing them with food, a care package containing household goods as well as a six-month monetary aid to improve their living conditions and allow them the opportunity to get back on their feet.
Through this Distribution Programme, it is estimated that the funds will help provide over 300,000 meals to less fortunate individuals in Malaysia.
